Municipal Stormwater Permit Information
In addition to the state construction stormwater permit, Ecology will regulate you
through newly adopted municipal stormwater permits. 104 cities and 17 counties have
to get permits from Ecology to operate their municipal storm drainage systems. These
permits tell local jurisdictions how to craft erosion control ordinances to regulate
construction. Local erosion ordinances do not have to be developed or amended for
two to three years, depending on your region. Below is some information to help
you figure out what will be included in the local ordinances and how it will impact
your business.

Comparison of the State Permit and Municipal Permit Requirements for Contractors
This chart shows a side-by-side comparison of the state permit process and the local
process you can expect once your local erosion ordinance is updated to reflect the
new municipal permit. (The chart uses the Western Washington Phase II permit; the
Western Phase I and Eastern Phase II permits have some requirements that are different.)
