January 1, 2020

Sherry Schwab, owner of HCS Construction Services Company, has been elected President of the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW) for 2020. Schwab will begin serving her term on Jan. 1.

Throughout the year, Schwab will represent home builders, advocating on the major challenges they face to provide housing that is affordable in local communities across the state. These issues include water availability, skilled labor shortages, and a lack of developable land for home building.

Sherry Schwab has been an advocate for the industry for over 25 years and has held many leadership positions with the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties (MBAKS), BIAW, and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

At the state level, Schwab has served as a State Director, Chair of the Remodelers Council, Chair of the Legislative Policy Committee, and the Washington Affordable Housing Council.

At the national level, Schwab is a leader in the Professional Women in Building Council and received NAHB’s 2016 Professional Women in Business Member of the Year. In 2017, she served as NAHB national Area 15 Chair, representing members in Washington and four other states.

For her contributions, Schwab has received top awards from MBAKS, was named BIAW Remodeler of the Year (2002), and was inducted into BIAW’s Hall of Fame in 2011.

Schwab was installed as President at the BIAW Fall board meeting Nov. 7, 2019, at the Historic Davenport Hotel in Spokane, Washington. In addition to Schwab, other BIAW officers installed for 2020 include: First Vice President Tracy Doriot; Second Vice President LouAnne Neil; Treasurer Joseph Irons; Secretary Nick Gilliland; and Immediate Past President Rick Hjelm.
