BIAW Government Affairs

Promoting Legislation To Make Housing More Affordable

BIAW's team of lobbyists work on members' behalf
to protect your livelihood and the American
dream of homeownership.

BIAW's Government Affairs exists to defend affordable housing for the citizens of Washington State.

BIAW's team of lobbyists and staff work on members' behalf to pass pro-housing legislation and defeat bills harmful to the housing industry. Our lobbying efforts have been responsible to sponsoring, amending and defeating legislation that affects builders, their businesses and their employees. BIAW’s experienced legislative team works for you to protect your livelihood and the dream of homeownership for Washington state families.

Weekly Lawmaker Review

BIAW also relies on an extensive grassroots system to educate elected officials on building industry-related issues. During each Legislative Session, a weekly email report - Lawmaker Review - is sent to members to update them on legislation and advises them when to contact their legislators.

The Capitol Dome is the focal point of the Legislative Building which houses the chambers of the Washington State Legislature.

Supporting the Election of Pro-Housing Candidates

BIAW and BIAW’s Political Action Committee, the Washington Affordable Housing Council, play an active role in Washington state elections, pouring a significant amount of time, energy and money into ensuring the election of pro-business and pro-housing candidates that support the building industry and the continued economic growth of the state.

How They Voted

Keeping BIAW members informed of the Legislature’s actions and its impact on the building industry is another important component of BIAW’s Government Affairs program. After each Legislative Session, BIAW produces How They Voted, a voting record of each legislator’s support for, or opposition to, issues important to the building industry. The guide is then distributed to every BIAW member, making it a valuable resource in helping them evaluate how their elected officials performed during the session.
