Celebrating Careers in Construction Month all year long
October 28, 2024
During Careers in Construction Month, BIAW joins state and national efforts to recruit more people into the trades for residential construction.
Competitive salaries, freedom and growth
Residential construction pays competitive salaries and provides opportunities for freedom and growth. People can learn about the various trades opportunities by downloading this trades brochure book from the National Association of Home Builders.
Kicking off Careers in Construction Month with new trades training academy
BIAW kicked off Careers in Construction Month by announcing the launch of its new Construction Trades Training Academy. Scheduled to open in January 2025, the academy will arm students with necessary skills. Then the program will place them directly into jobs where employers need them most.
Designed by BIAW in partnership with the Home Builders Institute (HBI), the WHBF Construction Trades Training Academy will tackle the skilled labor shortage in the construction industry with a comprehensive training-to-placement model. BIAW worked with the Master Builders Association of Pierce County Building Opportunities for Learning the Trades (BOLT) foundation, Goodwill of the Olympic and Rainier Region and the City of Tacoma to develop and fund the program.
BIAW encourages everyone to visit the Construction Trades Training Academy website to:
- Find more information about the program
- Sign up for the Employer Network
- Join the waiting list for the first cohort in January 2025

- Arrange a job shadow day. Invite prospects to visit your workplace and learn about the responsibilities and daily tasks they encounter there.
- Spread the word by sharing Careers in Construction Month on social media and highlighting opportunities in residential construction using #CareersInConstruction.
- Visit a school and talk with students. Plan fun activities or arrange for a panel of trades professionals to host a question-and-answer session.
