Celebrate signature gathering with BIAW & Let’s Go Washington
July 1, 2024
BIAW, Let’s Go Washington and other partners have scheduled two events on Tuesday to celebrate gathering enough signatures to likely qualify Initiative 2066 for the November General Election ballot. The group will hold a news conference in Redmond and submit the first round of initiative petitions to the Secretary of State’s Office in Tumwater.
I-2066 protects reliable, affordable energy choices like natural gas and propane and prohibits gas bans in Washington.
With over 328,000 signatures returned as of June 26, a weekend of successful super signing events and hundreds of petitions being returned, the group is confident they have all the signatures they need to ensure Initiative 2066: Protect Energy Choice makes the November ballot. They’ll submit their final round of signatures on the July 5 deadline.
By state law, they must submit 324,516 valid signatures from registered Washington voters to qualify. The Secretary of State’s office recommends a “cushion” of 15 to 20% in case some of the signatures collected are duplicates or from non-voters.
Independence Day brings us closer to energy freedom
“As Washington prepares to celebrate Independence Day, it’s a perfect time to celebrate our right to energy freedom,” said Greg Lane, Executive Vice President of the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW). “We support energy choice because natural gas provides warmth and comfort to more than a million Washington homes. It’s also the lifeblood of thousands of restaurants and businesses.
“The people of Washington demand the freedom to use natural gas in their homes,” he said. “That’s why we’re seeing such strong support.”
