September 3, 2024
BIAW General Counsel Ashli Penner recently filmed the Yes on Initiative 2066 argument for the TVW 2024 Video Voters’ Guide.
I-2066, sponsored by the BIAW, protects natural gas as an energy choice in Washington and prohibits natural gas bans at any level of government, in any form, anywhere in our state. After supporters gathered more than 533,000 signatures, the Secretary of State has certified the initiative for the November ballot.
Voters have the opportunity to Vote Yes on Initiative 2066 at the November General Election on Nov. 5, 2024.

Do you like cooking with natural gas? Do you have a gas water heater or furnace? Do you enjoy eating out at restaurants?
If so, then vote Yes on 2066 to keep the gas on in your homes and at countless restaurants and businesses.
You deserve the choice to use clean and efficient natural gas for heating and cooking. Vote Yes on 2066 to protect your energy choice.
Political elites in Olympia are banning natural gas in the Puget Sound area and plan to expand the ban statewide for all new and existing homes and businesses.
Protect energy choice
But YOU can protect natural gas as an energy choice. 2066 ensures continued natural gas service if you want it. Nothing in 2066 forces you to use natural gas – it only protects your ability to choose what’s best for you.
Voting Yes on 2066 ensures you aren’t forced to convert your home to all-electric appliances—at an average cost of $40,000!! These costs fall solely on homeowners, renters, and business owners. Can you afford the $40,000-plus to convert your home from gas to all-electric? I know I can’t. And think about our low—and fixed-income neighbors.
Essential for homes, restaurants and businesses
Businesses also rely on natural gas. A gas ban puts thousands of restaurants out of business. 2066 allows your favorite restaurants to continue making delicious food.
Manufacturers must have natural gas; 2066 protects these manufacturers and the people employed in these family-wage jobs.
Energy companies already complain about our fragile electrical grid, telling us regularly to reduce energy use, especially when it’s very cold or very hot.
Why remove a safe, reliable, efficient, and clean energy source like natural gas?
We rely on natural gas to warm our homes and cook our food when the power goes out.
Vote Yes on 2066 to keep an energy source that never goes out in the winter.
Doesn’t remove energy efficiency or environmental goals
2066 doesn’t remove any energy efficiency requirements or carbon reduction goals to address climate change. Instead, it keeps an efficient and clean energy source so we can meet those goals head on.
Initiative 2066 is very simple. It protects your choice to have natural gas service. The opposition wants to confuse you. They want to ban this clean energy source and have you pay the costs. What will you do when the power goes out?
Gas bans are already happening, so vote Yes on 2066 to protect the option of gas for heating and cooking.
