Spokane HBA’s Frame Your Future program receives $1M grant
November 2, 2022
On Friday, Oct. 25, the Spokane County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved to award the Frame Your Future (FYF) program $1 million in funds from the Federal American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act. They made the announcement Friday afternoon in a YouTube video.
“We’re very excited to see how many young individuals’ futures Frame Your Future helps build by exposing them to the construction trades,” said Josh Kerns, District 1 Spokane County Commissioner. “We’re very confident this will make a huge impact on our local community.”
According to a Spokane County press release, the county received RFPs from numerous firms with multiple proposed areas of funding. They evaluated the submitted proposals in accordance with Spokane County’s established ARP policy for solicitation, selection, and allocation.
“Up until now, we’ve had our community of builders support this program, and now with the county’s help, we will ensure the program lasts and touches thousands of students in the future,” said Brian Burrow, Frame Your Future Director of Workforce Development.
Bridging the school-workplace gap
Frame Your Future, a product of the Spokane Home Builders Association (SHBA), helps bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace by supporting high school construction programs. FYF connects students with SHBA builder mentors, providing them with an industry-driven curriculum and hands-on building experience. In 2023, FYF will pilot a two-week boot camp and place participants with a builder for on-the-job training, reimbursing wages to the employer for a period of time.
Frame Your Future to host Careers in Construction Conference
In collaboration with the Inland Northwest Associated General Contractors chapter, FYF is hosting the Careers in Construction Conference on Thursday, Dec. 7 in Spokane. The event will feature a great lineup of panelists and guest speakers representing educators and the building industry. Learn more and register today.
BIAW congratulates Frame Your Future and SHBA for their outstanding accomplishment in being awarded this grant and for all their workforce development efforts, helping build a pipeline of much-needed future workers for our industry.
