BIAW wins NAHB Grand Award for outstanding membership efforts

June 3, 2024

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recently recognized the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW) with a 2023 Grand Award for membership retention.

BIAW earned the highest membership retention rate in its group for 2023, 83.3%, compared to the group average of 77.1%.

“Kudos to BIAW’s Member Resource Manager Raelle Vitali, all the local membership staff and our members,” said BIAW Executive Vice President Greg Lane. “High retention rates speak to the value members find in their membership.

“BIAW, our 14 local associations and our recruiters work hard to make sure members feel included and supported in their business,” he said. “That helps encourage members to renew their memberships year after year.

NAHB Grand Award celebrates recruitment and retention

NAHB’s Grand Awards honor local and state HBAs that have shown exceptional achievement in membership growth and retention.

“An NAHB Grand Award represents BIAW’s commitment to its members and creating a welcoming community for all,” Bill Truex, 2024 NAHB Membership Committee Chair said. “NAHB recognizes local organizations for their outstanding achievements in member recruitment and retention each year to celebrate their success as we strive to serve everyone in the home building industry.”

Solid retention across Washington

BIAW’s 2023 “Retention Royale” campaign focused recruiters on the value of retention. The campaign rewarded recruiters for reconnecting with members they recruited during BIAW’s successful 2021 membership drive. Recruiters reinforced the value of membership and made sure the new recruits were happy with their membership.

Five local associations had the greatest increases in their retention rates.

  • The Lower Columbia Contractors Association saw a 2.8% increase
  • Both the San Juan Building Association and Master Builders Association of Pierce County had 2.1% increases
  • The Building Industry Association of Clark County had a 1.6% increase
  • Jefferson County Home Builders Association had a .2 increase

The Home Builders Association of Tri-Cities had the highest local retention rate in the state at 87.8% for 2023. Skagit/Island Counties Builders Association was close behind at 87.6%.

BIAW is the voice of the homebuilding industry. The state’s largest trade association with more than 8,000 member companies, BIAW promotes and protects the vitality of the building industry so more Washington families can enjoy the American Dream of owning a home.
