PWB Conference
October 21, 2019
Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties held a sold-out Professional Women in Building (PWB) Conference Oct. 10. The 120 attendees gathered at McMenamins Anderson School to hear from amazing panelists and guest speakers on ways to inspire women to join the trades, how to fight stereotypes in our industry, how to assist in developing a future workforce, and through silent auctions raised over $2,000 for scholarships.
At the conference, the guest speaker was HGTV and DIY Network host Amy Matthews. Matthews got her first taste of home improvement when she was in middle school traveling with her youth group to repair homes for families in need. After becoming a licensed contractor and hosting multiple shows, she learned that it is ok to not know absolutely everything. Just because you’re a woman does not mean you have to compete with men to gain respect, just show up and do your best work and respect will follow.
Since the event, the PWB council is focused on using the power of the past as force for the future. If you have any questions about PWB, go to the PWB website.
