BIAW mourns the loss of past MBAKS president and mentor Sandy McAdams
January 17, 2022
First female president at MBAKS
Sandy McAdams, the first female president of the Master Builders of King and Snohomish Counties (MBAKS), passed away Dec. 28 at her home in Colfax, Wash.
Sandy led the charge to form the Professional Women in Building council at MBAKS. She also played an important role in the purchase of MBAKS’ current building.
Honoring her legacy
To celebrate her legacy, MBAKS recognizes outstanding PWB council members with the Sandy McAdams Woman of the Year award.
The award celebrates women who demonstrate excellence and commitment to making a difference in their professional life and community.
Several of BIAW’s woman leaders have received this award. BIAW past president Sherry Schwab won it in 2015. Then Secretary Luellen Smith received it in 2016. And Workforce Development Task Force Chair Darylene Dennon won it in 2013. And most recently, BIAW Certified Builder Melissa Irons won it in 2021.
A mentor to many
Heavily involved in the Remodelers Council at MBAKS and at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), Schwab says Sandy mentored many, including her, encouraging her activity with BIAW and NAHB.
Sandy’s family is planning a memorial service for her at 1:30 pm on March 12 at the Church of the Nazarene in Colfax. Our condolences to her friends, family and colleagues during this difficult time.
