We’re hiring a content specialist

The BIAW Communications team is hiring a content specialist. This position fills the vacancy created when Andy Arrants was hired to manage the BIAW Education program. Looking for a great new job? Know someone who is?
We’re looking for a creative, curious and innovative new team member with excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
We’ll ask you to:
- Research, develop, write and edit content for the Building Insight magazine, published ten times a year, providing timely, interesting and accurate news and information to members and stakeholders
- Write a variety of communications pieces, including news releases, blog posts, email newsletters, talking points, social media posts, scripts and web copy on a wide range of topics
- Develop and execute communications plans to help us meet our communications and strategic planning goals
- Collaborate with the association’s members and external audiences, including local association communications leads and other key stakeholders, on communications projects
- Monitor media coverage and share results
- Provide communications support leading up to and when requested at board meetings and other events (some in-state travel may be required)
- Adhere to BIAW’s brand voice, meeting business and legal standards
- Proofread content for errors and inconsistencies
- Be a self-starter, able to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment while also working effectively with a team
- Be flexible and adaptable to rapidly changing situations
You’ll need:
- A bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications or related field. Experience may be substituted depending on qualifications
- At least three years of communications or public relations experience
- Exceptional research, writing, editing and verbal communications skills
- Knowledge of and commitment to writing in AP Style
- Experience producing publications on a regular cycle
- Familiarity with email marketing tools such as Constant Contact or Mailchimp
- Ability to publish content using content management systems like WordPress
- A great portfolio that demonstrates your strong writing and storytelling skills
- Ability to think creatively and apply an innovative approach to informational and promotional content
- A demonstrated commitment to excellence, attention to detail and laser focus on meeting deadlines
- A learner’s mindset: Great listening skills, natural curiosity and a desire to continuously improve and adapt
- Ability to quickly and capably manage multiple projects at once
- Strong interpersonal skills to build trusted and respectful relationships with our members, local association peers, co-workers and others
- A can-do, positive attitude
Level up with these bonus skills:
- Experience working with the Legislature, non-profits, business/trade associations or residential home builders/remodelers
- Accreditation in Public Relations (APR)
- Experience working with podcast development and growth
- Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) and readability strategies
The selected candidate must:
- Have the ability to work occasional night and weekend hours
- Hold a current, valid driver’s license
- Have reliable personal transportation and vehicle liability insurance
