URGENT: Protect Homeowners—Oppose Property Tax Hikes!

We need your help to protect homeowners and our industry from staggering property tax increases proposed in Senate Bill 5798 and House Bill 2049.

SB 5798 removes the existing 1% cap on annual property tax increases, allowing local governments to raise taxes without voter approval, tied to inflation and population growth. This means property taxes could skyrocket by an average of 4.7% per year—or even higher—potentially doubling your tax burden within a decade.

HB 2049 raises the tax growth cap to 3% annually. However, it ignores the voters’ previous rejection of such measures and imposes further financial strain on already struggling families and communities.

Why You Should Act NOW

  • We don’t need to change the 1% cap on property taxes without voter approval. If governments have a compelling case to raise taxes past the cap, voters can approve it.
  • Both bills bypass voter approval, undermining taxpayer accountability.
  • Increased property taxes worsen Washington’s housing affordability crisis, increasing costs for new homeowners and forcing older homeowners out of their homes.
  • No clear accountability or spending reforms accompany these proposals—only more unchecked taxing power.

Take Action

Contact your legislators TODAY. Let them know that unchecked property tax increases will harm homeowners, renters, businesses and Washington's economy. Urge them to vote NO on SB 5798 and HB 2049.
